There were just a few branches he could reach - but picture an almost-three-year-old, wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and sneakers, shoveling in as many black cherries as he could, spitting out the pits like a pro, and, best of all, the juice that completely coated him from his mouth, all the way down his chest and belly to his shorts - you know who ended up in the bathtub the minute we got home! More than 20 years later, that's still one of my favorite memories of his childhood.Krishttp://darksideofthefridge.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695325499248885493.post-27408692045932983732011-08-08T20:05:06.097-04:002011-08-08T20:05:06.097-04:00Yes you can make blueberry jam using this recipe a...Yes you can make blueberry jam using this recipe although you don't really need the apple pectin. Try the same basic procedure wit 1 kg (or 2 1/4 pounds) blueberries, 700 cups sugar (4 cups) and the juice of one lemon. If you can wait a few weeks maybe I will make and post a recipe.

RobinRobinhttp://blog.hippoflambe.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695325499248885493.post-33558090514832291262011-08-08T18:03:30.235-04:002011-08-08T18:03:30.235-04:00Hello,

At least in the batches I cooked enough, last year it was so hot out when I was making the jam I got lazy and made a few batches of syrup.

Without looking at your jam I would guess that you might have cooked it for too long. Jam will still look like a liquid in the pot when it is done. So if you were waiting for it to look like jam before you tested it you might have evaporated too much liquid.

Hope this helps
RobinRobinhttp://blog.hippoflambe.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695325499248885493.post-59555962976341467462011-08-04T02:29:21.393-04:002011-08-04T02:29:21.393-04:00Hi, I did your recipe and now we have a delicious ...Hi, I did your recipe and now we have a delicious jam...3/4 of a cup of it!! Ok, yes, I only used one pound of cherries since that was all that I could get, followed the frezeer test, but somehow the result, delicious as it is, is very thick, most of it fruit, almost non gelly. Are the pictures you posted your jam? What can I have done wrong? It is as I did not have enough liquid...
THANKS
DanielaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695325499248885493.post-32925588136334516312010-10-03T21:46:02.234-04:002010-10-03T21:46:02.234-04:00I found this farm who sells frozen tart cherries. ...I found this farm who sells frozen tart cherries. Make sure to leave more head space for freezer jam (3/4 of an inch) and use one of the jars that has tapered sides that get wider near the top. The ones that go in near the top may break when the jam freezes and expands.

-Robinhippo Flambehttp://hippoflambe.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1695325499248885493.post-35896802700645770112010-07-13T12:48:59.595-04:002010-07-13T12:48:59.595-04:00Thanks for the recipe--I, too, hesitate to use com...Thanks for the recipe--I, too, hesitate to use commercial pectin.
